Midvale City :: In the Middle of Everything

Midvale is located in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley. It lies between the Wasatch and Oquirrah Mountains just South of The Great Salt Lake. The Police Department is currently utilizing the man power of 47 officers and civilian employees in fields of Administration, Detectives, Patrol and Specialty Assignments.

We continue to strive in making Midvale City a better place to live and work by using special programs like Community Oriented Policing, Crime Free Multi Housing Programs and Neighborhood Watch.

A BIT OF DEPARTMENT HISTORY

The old jail house stood at 68 South Main. The Mitchell Apartments served as the City's Jail House and Council Chambers. The first floor had a small office and three jail cells.
Each cell had a bunk bed, sometimes a chair, access to a water tap and sink plus an open-view gentleman's chamber.
The occupants varied considerably from hardened criminals, to happy-go-lucky imbibers. One citizen had a weekly habit of over indulgence and would parade out onto Main Street, singing hilariously. The sound of his singing voice was signal to the on-duty officer to pick him up and put him to bed in the old jail house.
