  • ROYAL W. STOKES
    July 1, 1909 to 1919 and again from January 1, 1922 to his death in 1923.
    • Born in Draper Utah, Royal Stokes had no uniform, but usually wore his second best suit. He wore the official star proclaiming his position pinned to his suspenders.
  • DON CARLOS SMITH, JR
    December 4, 1918 to December 21, 1919.
    • Born in South Jordan Utah, during his tour of duty prohibition was introduced and most of the arrests were for violation of the liquor law.
  • ALBERT POULSEN
    January 1, to September 30, 1920.
  • R.H. McDONALD
    October 1, 1920 to January 31, 1921.
    • Chief McDonald was owner and operator of McDonald's Livery Stable and was also a member of the Midvale Fire Department.
  • W. THOMAS WILES
    February 1 to December 31, 1921
    • Born in Plains City Utah.
  • JOHN JENSON
    August 1 to December 31, 1923.
    • Born in Sweden, as a young man he herded sheep, and after his time of serving the Police Department, he decided he would rather herd sheep than people.
  • ARTHUR A. LARSON
    January 6 until March 31, 1924.
    • Born in Midvale Utah, he also served as city plumbing inspector and superintendent of the water department.
  • LEROY STEADMAN
    January 1, 1926 to December 31, 1933 and again from September 1936 until December 1941.
    • Born in West Jordan Utah, Chief Steadman cultivated a good relationship with the citizens of Midvale, especially the children.
  • KENNETH V. DUNN
    1934
    • During his tour, Midvale acquired it's first automobile as well as shortwave radio receiver.
  • FRANK PORTER
    January 1, to August 1, 1936.
  • LYLE READING
    December 1941.
    • Born in Midvale Utah, Chief Reading was called to investigate 10 fatal accidents including the Jordan school bus tragedy

  • MARCELL GRAHAM
    1942.
    • Chief Graham strapped a Sam Browne belt, complete with gun and handcuffs, around his waist and took as oath of office. He was the only police officer in Utah that issued driver's licenses.
  • WILLIAM M. CALLAWAY
    April 16 until October 31, 1946

  • ANDREW KEKOS
    November 1, 1946, to December 31, 1947.
    • Before becoming Chief, Andrew Kekos also served as a Police Officer under Marcell Graham.
  • WILLIAM H. GRANT
    January 1 until April 30, 1952.
    • Chief Grank located one of the FBI's ten most wanted men and helped apprehend the suspect.
  • JOSEPH MAZURAN
    May 1, 1952 until May 15, 1959.
    • Born in Midvale Utah, he was also a Mayor of Midvale and during that time, the purchase of installed mobile radios for communication were purchased

    May 15, 1959 until May 30, 1980
    • Born in Midvale Utah, during his tenure as chief the implementation of K-9, Reserve Officers, and a Police Dispatch System took place

    June 3, 1980 until April 1, 1984

  • GERALD W. MAUGHAN
    April 1, 1984 until September 1986

  • JOHN E. PATIENCE
    February 1987 until April 1992
    • During his tenure as Midvale's Police Chief, Midvale contributed to it's excellence as a police department by joining the Metro Gang Unit.

  • GERALD W. MAUGHAN
    Jaunary 1993 to January 2007
    • During Chief Maughan's second term Midvale City doubled it's size with the annexation to 1300 East.  The department also benefited by the building of a new modern police station.
